UCI Administrative & Business Services

Dear Campus Community,

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a smoke advisory. A brush fire, named the Christianitos Fire, is burning in San Diego County, at Camp Pendleton. The burn area was estimated this morning to be 700 acres with 10 percent containment. Winds are southerly this morning, bringing smoke mainly into Orange County. Smoke impacts in our area are expected to improve as the sea-breeze increases from the west by late morning.

Everyone should avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, older adults, and children should remain indoors. Be sure to keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter. Run your air conditioner if you have one and keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside.

Environmental Health & Safety and Risk Services will continue to monitor the air quality on campus and will coordinate with UC Irvine Emergency Management to notify groups that may be affected by unhealthy air quality. Please call 949.824.6200 with any additional questions or concerns.
