CFO and Vice Chancellor Ron Cortez provided updates regarding the Presidential Task Force on Universitywide Policing with a focus on the current community complaint process.

Interim Chief of Police Paul Cooper presented on the S.A.F.E.R. program created by the UCI Police Department which is designed to foster engagement and responsibility between the UCI Police Department and students, faculty, staff, and visitors. He also reviewed the current community complaint procedure at UCI.

Clery Act Compliance Manager CrystalRae Lugo-Shearer presented on emergency notifications standards and requirements for ZotAlerts, crime alerts, and community advisories.

CFO and Vice Chancellor Ron Cortez provided updates on the finalists for the Chief of Police search and next steps in the process. He updated PSAC on the Presidential Task Force on Universitywide Policing recommendations which will be released to the public soon. He announced that PSAC will host the first town hall for the community on public safety.

Interim Chief of Police Paul Cooper announced that Emergency Management Director Randy Styner started in February and ten police officers are to be hired in the next five months. In addition, he demonstrated the body-worn cameras selected by UCOP and announced the bodyworn camera system will go live on the UCI campus in summer 2019.

Chair Seron requested feedback on engagement opportunities for UCIPD and the stakeholders represented by each PSAC member.

Due to time constraints, the Presidential Taskforce on Universitywide Policing agenda item was moved to the next PSAC meeting agenda.

CFO and Vice Chancellor Ron Cortez announced the release of the Presidential Task Force on Universitywide Policing: https://www.ucop.edu/policing-task-force/policing-task-forcereport_2019.pdf. The report includes 28 recommendations to for University of California Police Departments.

Chair Seron announced the speakers and panelists for the upcoming town hall. Professor Meeker presented his overview of the standardization of the complaint process and committee members offered feedback.

The meeting closed by finalizing logistics for the town hall scheduled for May 21.
